Gift of God Devotional

Scripture, testimony, and encouragement for mental health.

John Mencer is just one man among many who struggle to walk through a fallen world. Though he is far from perfect and tends to focus on those imperfections, he hopes to bring you with him along this journey to healing and love in Jesus!

There are some pretty profound testimonies of people who have lost everything and still stay strong in their faith, leading others to question how they can still be praising God in the midst of the storms of life. As someone who daily struggles to even keep my crap together, I ask myself how I can be such a person. How can I stay strong in the midst of my world falling apart?

1) Focus on Jesus: Recognize that it is NOT MY POWER but HIS, and that these “light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all” (2 Corinthians 4:17).
2) Build a community: Go to church; get involved; talk to others who are walking through life along with you through the pains and the sorrows, the joys and the accomplishments. Surround yourself with those who encourage you, and who “spur [you] on toward love and good deeds, not giving up on meeting together… encouraging one another” (Hebrews 10:24-25).

I texted my pastor this morning about how I often get stuck in my head and will sit there for hours, and he sent me this simple reply: “Stop thinking and talk to God.” I hope this encourages you all to stop and talk to God today, and if you have any moments you’d like to share, please do so.
