Gift of God Devotional

Scripture, testimony, and encouragement for mental health.

John Mencer is just one man among many who struggle to walk through a fallen world. Though he is far from perfect and tends to focus on those imperfections, he hopes to bring you with him along this journey to healing and love in Jesus!

“Surely God does not reject one who is blameless or strengthen the hands of evildoers. He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy. Your enemies will be clothed in shame, and the tents of the wicked will be no more.” Job‬ ‭8‬:‭20‬-‭22‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Even in times of struggle, turmoil, suffering, loss, etc., God fills us with joy, laughter, strength, comfort, and so much more. Nehemiah 8:10 says, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Even as the Israelites were mourning and weeping for their own sin and rebellion, they were told to celebrate, because they were being made holy.

What joy do you find right now in the midst of the storms of life? How can you celebrate the struggles and trials in your life as you are being made new? In what areas do you need strength from God right now?

“You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. Lord my God, I will praise you forever.” Psalms‬ ‭30‬:‭11‬-‭12‬ ‭NIV‬‬
