Gift of God Devotional

Scripture, testimony, and encouragement for mental health.

John Mencer is just one man among many who struggle to walk through a fallen world. Though he is far from perfect and tends to focus on those imperfections, he hopes to bring you with him along this journey to healing and love in Jesus!

“When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in front of them all, ‘You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs?’” Galatians‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We. Are. Not. Of. This. World. So, we should not live as if we are of the world. Let’s look at that verse again, and change the word “Jew” to “Christian” and the word “Gentile” to “non-Christian.” Now it will read:

“You are a Christian, yet you live like a non-Christian and not like a Christian. How is it, then, that you force non-Christians to follow Christian customs?”

Are we living as Christians, as the “little-Christ’s” which that word means? Or, are we living as if we are “of the world”?

In Galatians 2:20, Paul tells us this: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” When we are crucified with Christ, it means we agree to surrender every part of our lives to Jesus – our goals, our plans, our ideas, and even our relationship. As the old hymn says: “I surrender all, I surrender all; All to Thee, my blessed Savior, I surrender all.”

Are you freely giving Jesus all of your life, as Jesus freely gave you His life for your sake?

Let’s live as a light to the world around us, quite literally “practicing what we preach.” Let’s give Jesus all of ourselves so that He might work in us and through us.
