“But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish.… He answered, “I am a Hebrew and I worship the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.”” Jonah 1:3a, 9 NIV
Jonah ran away from the Lord – can you imagine trying to run away from God, knowing that He is everywhere? Jonah knew that God is all-powerful (verse 9), and yet he still tried to run.
I think we all do this at times – we try to run from what God has planned for us. We try to flee from things in our lives, thinking of our own desires (Jonah), or that we’re not the person to do this task (Moses), or even that there is no point because it’s a losing battle (Elijah).
Yet, God has shown us time and time again that His ways are not our ways and His plans are not our plans. He uses us even in our weaknesses. How is He trying to use you?
