Gift of God Devotional

Scripture, testimony, and encouragement for mental health.

John Mencer is just one man among many who struggle to walk through a fallen world. Though he is far from perfect and tends to focus on those imperfections, he hopes to bring you with him along this journey to healing and love in Jesus!

Read Hosea chapter 7.

God tells us that He longs to redeem us – “to feel a strong desire or craving especially for something not likely to be attained” (Merriam-Webster). God desires us – but we have to make a choice… do we turn to Him, or do we turn to the world and the idols in our lives?

It’s so easy to sit and watch TV, play games, do anything except the things that we know we need to do. A friend of mine, a doctor in physical therapy (DPT), was talking to me recently about exercise. It’s so hard to start, and we com up with every excuse possible to avoid it – but once we get into a habit of doing it, we get to a point that it’s actually harder to stop. Humans are habitual creatures.

The same is true for time with God, as well as other healthy habits. Make time each day, 15-20 minutes, to be alone with God. Put your phone on silent or in another room, turn off all distractions, and turn to Him.
