Let’s read Joel 1.
There are two key things that I take away from this passage, a passage of mourning the destruction of God’s people.
The first takeaway is this: history and knowledge are important. Verse 3 emphasizes the need to make sure that generations know the history and knowledge of why there was a need to repent and the punishment received.
The second takeaway I see is that it is so important to turn to God and seek after Him. Joel paints a picture of a vast suffering of all creation, down to every last animal and plant, and how all of creation turns to God in this time of need. I might be interpreting it out of context, but that is how I read verse 20: “Even the wild animals pant for you”.
Are you teaching the next generation about Jesus? Are you seeking after God in every situation?
